Listed below are equipment particulars for MDTG firearm courses. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact MDTG. Proper equipment is essential to successful training. It is the students’ responsibility to insure that they have all the equipment necessary and that it is functioning properly and safely. If you carry a firearm, for example as a requirement of your occupation, then we suggest you use the same duty gear for training. If there are any questions concerning this issue, please give us a call.

Firearm
Must be reliable and functioning properly and safely. It is recommended that you bring a spare. The gun must fit your hand since you will be firing a lot of rounds, and you must be able to manipulate all the functions.

Ammunition
Must be commercial ammunition. No home loads. The chances for malfunctions, misfires, and explosions are far greater with hand-loaded ammunition and this creates a risk for students and staff. It is recommended that you test fire ammunition for compatibility with your firearm before the class.

Magazines and Speed Loaders
The mags or loaders must function properly and you should test them with your firearm and ammunition for compatibility.

Holster and Related Equipment
Holster must be held in position with a belt through the belt loops of pants and allow you to re-holster without opening it up with your weak hand. In other words, the holster should not collapse when the gun is withdrawn. No clip on holsters. Strong-side holsters only. No cross draw or shoulder holsters. Holster should hold gun securely so that it will not fall out if you are running or moving. We do not recommend retention straps or retaining devices unless they are required as part of your duty gear. You want to train with the holster that you will use when carrying. You should have pouches for magazines or speed loaders to be carried on your weak side. Holster, belt, and pouches should be comfortable and fit you.

Flashlights
For tactical courses and low light drills, you will need a flashlight with a push button or "pressure" on/off switch. It must have one-handed operation. The most popular choices are the Surefire and Scorpion brands - available in several styles.

Elbow and Knee Pads
For courses requiring elbow and knee pads, there are several types available. Tactical equipment is available from many sources, plus hardware stores usually have pads in stock, and sporting goods dealers have them for skating.

Clothing
Hat or cap to prevent sun burn and avoid hot brass from burning you. We recommend a shirt with high collar and long sleeves to prevent brass from falling in your shirt. Rain gear is suggested because we do not stop for rain. Your shoes should be comfortable and allow you to move without slipping. Dress shoes are not recommended! Pants should have pockets and must have belt loops for you holster belt. Loose pants will allow more freedom of movement. Sweat pants, slacks, and shorts are not recommended. All clothing should allow you to move freely and must be practical. Do not wear clothing that you fear to damage.

Miscellaneous
A range bag for your equipment will help. You should bring drinks and refreshments. You will need plenty of fluids. Sunscreen, chapstick for lips, and bandaids are suggested.

You are responsible for bringing all the equipment you will require. It is up to you to insure that it is all functioning properly. There is nothing worse than not getting the fullest out of the class because of malfunctioning or missing equipment. All equipment must be functioning properly and safely; there are no exceptions. Again, it is highly recommended that you bring a spare weapon and extra ammunition.

Instructor certification is an important aspect of reducing liability for your organization. Some our instructors are all current or retired Law Enforcement Officers with a minimum of 18 years street experience and thousands of hours teaching police officers.
We offer certification programs in:
• Police Defensive tactics
• Straight and Collapsible Baton
• Side-Handle Baton
• Arrest-Control Tactics
The basic instructor program is a 40-hour course. The certification is valid for twelve (12) months, at which time an instructor must attend a sixteen-hour re-certification course.

Our classes emphasize not only the technical skill to perform the techniques, but also teach how to be an effective trainer so that the skills learned can be passed on to members of one’s organization.

Topics include:
• Arrest Control Tactics
o Searching
o Control holds
o Handcuffing
o Team arrests
• Defensive Tactics
o Edged weapons defense
o Personal self defense
o Defensive strikes with upper and lower body
• Weapon retention & Weapon disarms (both handguns & shoulder weapons)
• Ground survival tactics
• Instructor development skills
• Lesson plan development
• Liability management
After certification, we can provide experts and lawyers to help you investigate use of force claims and offer expert analysis and court testimony for your organization. Each case is evaluated on an individual basis. We do not testify against police agencies. All our services are provided exclusively for the defense of your organization.
